Iranian Student Association at York University was first initiated as early as 1982. Yes, we are 26 years old! Just to give you a little bit of nostalgia, here is a link to a handwritten invitation letter dated back to 1987 inviting Persian culture enthusiasts to join the club. And to excite you even more, here is a copy of the early constitutions the club used to have.
Our activities and services are virtually without limits and are ever changing! We are always open to new ideas. We offer school tours, translation and academic help to new and existing students of York University. ISAYU in co-operation with Professor Rahnema is in progress of starting up Farsi Classes at York for which we need everyone’s support. Hosting and sponsoring speeches by some professors about our culture, society and heritage are in the works this year, as well. We also take pride in presenting the Iranian culture in York University’s infamous Multi Cultural Week every year. Awarding scholarships have also been done in the past and shall be done on regular basis, budget permitting. Some other events hosted by ISAYU regularly are:
Further more, ISAYU along with University of Toronto, Waterloo, Ryerson and McMaster’s Iranian Associations present the biggest Yalda and Norouz parties in Canada every year!
Last but of course not the least, our infamous, annual ski trip! Along with about 50-100 people we head out to Montreal; spend a few nights (3-4) there in a hotel. Every day we head out to Mount Tremblant and at Night, of course partying! Just like our Yalda and Norouz events, this has always been a SOLD OUT event and will always remain as one!
Please feel free to give us your inputs and thoughts on our events. Also come by our office, within the office hours and meet our board members, Executive Committee and get involved! We could always use extra help to improve our services and events!
